The culture is rotation-first, the social code is forgiving, and English is workable at most courts — especially in Taipei. Three cities worth knowing: Taipei for the depth and drop-in culture, Kaohsiung for the beach courts, Tainan for something quieter.

What you'll notice first is how mixed the courts are: 70-year-olds out-dinking 25-year-olds, beginners cycled in beside 4.5s, three languages on one court. It works. After three years here it's still the place I find myself recommending to first-time visitors who want to be sure they'll get on court.

Youth Park and Da'an tend to have more English-speaking players than most venues. You won't be turned away for not speaking Mandarin, but don't assume it everywhere.

Free, floodlit, government-built. The Da'an Park courts in Taipei are legitimately excellent — better-surfaced than most public courts anywhere.
