Indonesia's pickleball scene is split between Bali's digital-nomad-fuelled Canggu community and a rapidly growing Jakarta scene. Both reward the visitor who comes prepared.
"Bali's Canggu scene is the most naturally welcoming pickleball community in Southeast Asia. The vibe is surf town, not sports club."
Indonesia breaks into two very different stories. Bali — specifically Canggu — has built a pickleball community around its large digital nomad and expat population. Courts at Deus Ex Machina and Canggu Club run daily open play, English is the working language of the group, and the relaxed coastal vibe means newcomers integrate in one session. The standard of play ranges from total beginners to solid 4.0s.
Jakarta is a bigger city with a bigger scene, but it is harder to access as a visitor. Sessions run through sports clubs and private venues in South Jakarta — SCBD and Kemang are the hubs. The community is predominantly Indonesian with limited English in most groups. The level skews higher than Bali. A local contact makes the difference between getting into the right court and spinning your wheels.
Bali is casual, expat-driven, and extremely welcoming. Jakarta is larger, more competitive, and harder to access without a local connection. Plan your visit around which experience you want.
Canggu has daily open play, English as the default language, and a community that runs on the same casual ethos as the surf and yoga scenes around it. Walk in, play, come back the next day.
Bali sessions run IDR50,000–150,000 (USD$3–9). Jakarta club memberships and session fees skew higher. Both remain excellent value by global standards.
Indonesia's wet season (Oct–Apr) affects outdoor play significantly. Indoor venues in Jakarta are insulated from it. Bali's outdoor courts cope better than you might expect — rain typically comes in the afternoon and passes quickly.
Canggu's digital nomad community has built one of Asia's most effortlessly welcoming pickleball scenes — daily open play, English as the working language, and a vibe that feels more surf town than sports club.
Indonesia's capital has a growing and competitive pickleball scene built around South Jakarta's sports clubs — harder to access as a visitor than Bali, but rewarding for players who come prepared.

Bahasa Indonesia is uniform across the country. In Bali's Canggu, English is widely spoken. In Jakarta, a few Bahasa phrases earn real appreciation.
