Seoul is the most organised pickleball city in Asia that most visitors underestimate. The Korean Pickleball Association runs structured leagues, the Gangnam and Mapo districts have real clubs with real facilities, and the level of play is genuinely high. If you show up as a serious player and make the right introductions, you will find some of the best doubles in Asia.

서울은 아시아에서 대부분의 방문자가 과소평가하는 가장 체계적인 피클볼 도시입니다. 한국피클볼협회는 구조화된 리그를 운영하고, 강남구와 마포구에는 실제 시설을 갖춘 진짜 클럽이 있으며, 플레이 수준은 진정으로 높습니다. 진지한 선수로서 올바른 소개를 받으면 아시아 최고의 더블스 경기를 경험할 수 있습니다.

The path in is not as hard as Tokyo. A post in the KPA Facebook group or a KakaoTalk message to the right organiser will usually get you a session within 48 hours. Most venues run at ₩15,000–30,000 per session — reasonable quality, with good indoor surfaces in both districts. English is limited outside Itaewon and Gangnam, but Korean pickleball players are famously welcoming to foreigners who make a real effort.

   Post in the Pickleball Korea Facebook group

   Introduce yourself with your level, dates, and which part of Seoul you are staying in. Request a KakaoTalk introduction to either the Gangnam or Mapo coordinator.

   KakaoTalk is the Korean equivalent of WhatsApp — it is how Seoul pickleball organises itself. Without it you cannot access group schedules or confirm sessions.

   Start at Itaewon if your level is below 3.5

   레벨 3.5 미만이면 이태원에서 시작

   The community court in Itaewon runs casual Sunday mornings. English is spoken, the welcome is genuine, and it gives you a feel for the scene before stepping up to the club sessions.

   Arrive with a genuine level, not an aspirational one

   Korean organers appreciate honesty about skill level. Showing up as a self-assessed 4.0 when you are a 3.0 is the fastest way to not get invited back. Be honest and let your game speak.

The feel of the scene.

Korean pickleball culture is competitive first, social second — and the social second part is worth waiting for. Sessions are structured: warm-up, drills, then structured doubles. After the session, the group often goes to a nearby pojangmacha (street food tent) or barbecue restaurant, and that transition from intense competitor to generous host happens in about thirty seconds. If you win a point against a Korean 4.5 and they immediately ask where you trained, take it as the warmest compliment they know how to give.
